On February 10, 2025, the City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCdO), along with other State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Universities and Colleges (LCUs) in Region 10, participated in the DOST PCIEERD Funding Programs Webinar titled Building and Sustaining the Capacities of Researchers, Scientists, and Engineers in Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology.

Organized by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD), the webinar aimed to provide valuable insights on securing funding opportunities to turn academic research into reality. Discussions covered various funding programs, eligibility requirements, budget allocations, and the types of proposals accepted. Mr. Ruel A. Pili, MBA, Regional Consortium Coordinator of DOST-PCIEERD, also highlighted common pitfalls that often lead to proposal rejections, offering practical guidance on improving approval chances. Prof. Jonathan Madronero, Vice-President of Urban Nexus for Licensing, Intellectual Property, Research, Innovation, and Creative Enterprise (UNLIRICE), welcomed the funding opportunities from DOST-PCIEERD, highlighting their potential to enhance the institution’s research initiatives. He stressed that by focusing on impactful research and developing strong proposals, CCCdO can drive innovation at the grassroot level.

Meanwhile, Dr. Joel Potane, Director for Research, UNLIRICE, expressed optimism about the potential of City College of CDO to grow its research capabilities through PCIEERD programs. He stated “Through DOST-PCIEERD mentorship and funding, researchers can learn how to design studies that solve real problems in barangays and communities around Cagayan de Oro. Partnering with local government units (LGUs), industries, and civil society groups will also make research more relevant and impactful.”

As CCCdO continues to expand its research initiatives, the institution remains committed to leveraging opportunities like the DOST-PCIEERD funding programs to drive innovation and community development. By strengthening research capabilities, CCCdO aims to create impactful solutions for local and regional challenges.
