The City College of Cagayan de Oro, through its Center of Human Rights Education Director, Dr. Jean T. Loquillano, served as a validator for the Oro Kasanag Awards-Search for Child-Friendly Barangay held from February 3-7, 2025.
Dr. Loquillano's involvement, alongside validators from various Cagayan de Oro LGU departments including CSWD, City Health Office, Oro Youth, DILG, Finance Office, City Planning Office, and the Philippine National Police, and other NGOs, underscores the city's commitment to child safety, security, and development. This commitment is reflected in the city's newly developed Local Development Plan for Children. The institution, under the proactive leadership of Dr. Jestoni P. Babia, college president, is grateful for the opportunity to consider CCCDO as part of the ORO Kasanag Awards- Child Friendly validation, which is consistent to the core values of the school.
The evaluation focuses on the four basic rights for the children that includes survival, participation, development and protection. Each basic right is composed of different sub-indicators that serve as bases for the validators to capture the barangay’s best practices, and holistic story in providing the best services for the children.
Accordingly, the activity aimed at improving the lives of children by prioritizing children’s well-being, creating a safe and secure environment; ensuring access to essential services that includes quality healthcare, education, nutrition, and other basic services. Furthermore, it also aimed at promoting participation, fostering development and growth and building a sustainable future among children. Overall, the search for a Child-Friendly Barangay is a commitment to creating environments where children can thrive, reach their full potential, and enjoy their childhoods.
