The City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCDO) received Plaque of Commendation from the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) as a model Higher Education Institution (HEIs) across the country that established the Center for Human Rights Education (CHRE) during the nationwide activity titled, "Lakbay Karapatan tungo sa Kamalayan" last September 17, 2025 at N Hotel, Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City. The said commendation recognized CCCDO’s initiatives in advancing human rights education, cultivating academic excellence with social responsibility and shaping students and community as advocates of human dignity. These efforts are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, which promotes the protection of human rights and the building of just, inclusive societies. Commissioner Atty. Beda A. Epres from the Commission on Human Rights - Central Office, along with Regional Director Atty. Jeanne Ivy F. Abrina of CHR 10, awarded the 4 model HEIs that included the City College of Cagayan de Oro; University of Science and Technology (USTP) -Alubijid; Valencia College, and Bukidnon State University (BukSU) -College of Law.
During the program, Dr. Jean T. Loquillano, CHRE Director, presented the initiatives and best practices of the Center for Human Rights Education at CCCDO. Her presentation highlighted the institution’s efforts in advancing human rights education through research, partnerships, extension projects, capacity building, and human rights advocacy.
The gathering also served as a platform for knowledge sharing and networking among partner institutions, media organizations, and stakeholders to reinforce advocacies on education, rights, and responsible citizenship. In receiving the commendation, CCCDO reaffirmed its commitment to fostering meaningful linkages that advance academic growth, promote social awareness, and support the holistic development of its community.
