In Celebration of the 𝐂𝐒𝐭𝐲 𝐀𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐫 πƒπšπ² πŸπŸŽπŸπŸ“ , the 𝐂𝐒𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐨π₯π₯𝐞𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 π‚πšπ πšπ²πšπ§ 𝐝𝐞 𝐎𝐫𝐨 (π‚π‚π‚πƒπŽ) proudly joined the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) in a Bamboo Tree Growing Activity held on July 4, 2025, in Sitio Pamalihi, Barangay Pagatpat, Cagayan de Oro City. The event marked the city's observance of City Arbor Day, as mandated by City Ordinance No. 01345-2018, designating every 4th of July as a day to champion reforestation and environmental consciousness among Kagay-anons.

This year's celebration highlighted the symbolic and ecological value of bamboo, a fast-growing and sustainable plant known as the "grass of hope." Beyond its rapid growth, bamboo plays a crucial role in mitigating climate changeβ€”it stabilizes soil, prevents erosion, supports local biodiversity, and absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Through this activity, CCDO, along with volunteers, local leaders, and environmental advocates, affirmed their commitment to building a greener, more resilient city, one shot at a time.

More than a ceremonial tree planting, the initiative served as a collective call to actionβ€”reminding the public that environmental stewardship is a shared responsibility. It also directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly 𝐒𝐃𝐆 πŸπŸ‘ (𝐂π₯𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 π€πœππ’π¨π§) and 𝐒𝐃𝐆 πŸπŸ“ (π‹π’πŸπž 𝐨𝐧 π‹πšπ§π). These goals emphasize the importance of reducing carbon emissions, restoring degraded ecosystems, and preserving biodiversityβ€”objectives that were clearly embodied in the day's efforts.

As Cagayan de Oro moves forward in its mission toward ecological sustainability, the City Government hopes that Arbor Day will inspire long-term engagement, deeper environmental awareness, and grassroots participation.

Let's grow a future rooted in hope, healing, and harmony with nature.
