The City College of Cagayan de Oro conducted a comprehensive earthquake drill on June 19, 2025, at 9:00 AM, involving all employees, students, and guests. The drill was conducted by the Health and Safety Officer and Health and Safety Committee, synchronized with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council's nationwide earthquake drill.
The primary objectives of the drill were to educate all personnel and students about earthquake safety procedures, practice the "Drop, Cover, and Hold" technique and buddy-buddy system during evacuation, assess the preparedness level of CCCDO in case of a real earthquake, and test the effectiveness of evacuation procedures and emergency response coordination.
During the drill, participants successfully performed the "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" action when the alarm sounded. After the shaking simulation ended, evacuation to designated safe zones commenced with Health and Safety Committee members guiding participants and checking all rooms and areas. A headcount was conducted at the assembly area to account for all individuals.
The drill demonstrated positive response with most participants acting quickly and calmly, proper following of evacuation routes, and effective facilitation by the Health and Safety Officer. Areas for improvement identified include ensuring participants complete the full duck, cover, and hold procedure before evacuation and addressing partial obstructions in some evacuation routes by vehicles.
