The City College of Cagayan de Oro–Technical Skills and Technology Institute (CCCDO–TSTI) continues to uphold its unwavering commitment to Sustainable Development through the successful implementation of the Sayod Series Symposiums and Seminars for the third quarter of 2024, conducted from July 15 to September 20, 2024. This quarterly initiative aims to cultivate responsible, skilled, and sustainability-driven trainees by integrating essential life skills—occupational safety, financial literacy, and career readiness—into the institution’s technical training programs. A total of 176 trainees, including out-of-school youth under the PBEd program, actively participated in the series, reflecting CCCDO–TSTI’s dedication to inclusive and transformative education. The Sayod Series featured three major learning activities that empowered trainees to become lifelong advocates of sustainability:

Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Seminar Conducted every Thursday and Friday at 1:30 PM from July 25 to August 2, 2024, the BOSH Seminar was facilitated by Mr. Ariel Ansay, the institution’s Safety Officer. The seminar focused on maintaining safety before, during, and after training, with discussions on preventive measures and hazard awareness. Attended by trainees across various qualifications—including 59 PBEd out-of-school youth—the seminar recorded 88 post-evaluation responses, showing that participants gained a deeper understanding of workplace safety and sustainable practices. Financial Literacy Seminar Held on August 14, 2024, at the Agusan Gymnasium, the Financial Literacy Seminar gathered 138 trainees, including 55 out-of-school youth. Guest speakers Mr. Melvin O. Bedasua and Mr. Elmo C. Bautista from the First Community Cooperative (FICCO) shared valuable insights on responsible money management and workplace efficiency.

Mr. Bedasua discussed financial planning, saving, and investing for long-term stability, while Mr. Bautista emphasized Being Efficient in the Workplace, promoting productivity and sustainable resource use. Out of all attendees, 82 trainees submitted post-evaluations, demonstrating strong appreciation for the program’s practical and empowering approach to financial sustainability. AGAK Career Mentorship Seminar Serving as the culminating activity, the AGAK Career Mentorship Seminar was held at the City College Covered Court, attended by 141 trainees, including 53 PBEd out-of-school youth. Resource speakers from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)—Ms. Sittie Nashiba D. Talon-Alonto and Ms. Mary Joyce Abragan-Harnaiz—discussed the First Time Job Seekers Act and Workers’ Minimum Statutory Rights and General Labor Standards. Based on 81 post-evaluation responses, trainees expressed that the seminar strengthened their awareness of lawful employment practices, rights, and responsibilities, preparing them to become competent and ethical members of the workforce.

Through the Sayod Series Symposiums and Seminars, CCCDO–TSTI demonstrates how technical education can serve as a catalyst for sustainable learning and community empowerment. By integrating sustainability principles into training—focusing on safety, financial literacy, and employability—the college ensures that graduates are not only technically skilled but also socially responsible, environmentally conscious, and economically empowered.

The City College of Cagayan de Oro–TSTI remains steadfast in its mission to produce graduates who embody accountability, resilience, and sustainability—individuals who are prepared to lead, innovate, and contribute to the continuous advancement of their workplaces, communities, and society as a whole.
