Last October 24, the NSTP Department of the City College of Cagayan de Oro brought together all CWTS and LTS students for a day of community engagement, reflection, and learning through REAL TALK 1.

The day began with a Clean-Up Drive, where NSTP students actively took part in beautifying and tidying up designated areas within and outside the campus. This simple yet meaningful activity embodied the NSTP’s values of discipline, teamwork, and volunteerism—proving that real change starts with action.

Afterward, students gathered for REAL TALK 1, an enlightening series of discussions that deepened their awareness of pressing social and environmental issues. The event featured three dynamic speakers who inspired the youth to take part in building a safer, cleaner, and healthier nation:

The activity aimed to raise awareness on critical social and environmental issues through engaging discussions led by dynamic and passionate speakers:

Rhey B. Lagang from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department – Oro Rescue 911 presented “Prep Like a Pro (DRRM in the Digital Age),” empowering students to be prepared, proactive, and resilient in the face of disasters.

Karen Mishelle Daba Camaro-Mapano of the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) shared, “Ooopss, Bawal Plastik! ”—a timely reminder to reduce plastic use, embrace sustainability, and become advocates for a cleaner and greener city.

Dr. Jundee Lourence A. Taruc, RN, MAN, of the Department of Health – Treatment and Rehabilitation Center, Cagayan de Oro inspired students with “No Thanks! (No to Drugs: Tips at Ticks para sa Makulay na Buhay)", encouraging the youth to live responsibly, stay drug-free, and choose a vibrant, meaningful life.

This initiative advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being

SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities

SDG 13 – Climate Action

SDG 14 & 15 – Life Below Water and Life on Land

Through activities like these, our NSTP students show that service is more than just a requirement—it’s a commitment to community, environment, and nation-building.
