RESEARCH PUBLICATION ALERT!!! - Image 1

Congratulations to Ray Butch D. Mahinay, Freizie Hazil G. Naranjo, Roselyn A. Faciol, and Jefferson C. Cena for their research publication titled: "Gender Disparities and Spatial Patterns in Alternative Learning System Enrollment and Completion" published in the Mindanao Journal of Alternative Education Studies Vol. 2 No. 1 (2025).

This study explores gender-based spatial patterns in enrollment and completion rates of the Alternative Learning System (ALS) across 14 Schools Division Offices of DepEd Region X from 2017 to 2021. Using Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) for data analysis, the research identifies key trends in enrollment and completion across urban and rural areas.

Key findings reveal that:

Rural areas have higher enrollment but lower completion rates compared to urban centers.

While males form a larger share of total enrollees, female learners have higher completion rates, suggesting that once enrolled, females are more likely to persist and complete the program.

To address these disparities, the study recommends targeted interventions such as:

Financial assistance for learners.

Flexible learning schedules to accommodate different needs.

Gender-sensitive support services to ensure equitable learning opportunities.

This research provides actionable insights to improve ALS program effectiveness and promote inclusive and equitable education in Northern Mindanao and beyond.
