Students from the National Service Training Program (NSTP) of the City College of Cagayan de Oro actively participated in a meaningful Community Immersion and Service Learning Activity in Barangay Agusan.

This initiative sought to strengthen community engagement, promote social responsibility, and enable students to apply their classroom learning to real-life situations—embodying the NSTP’s mission of service, citizenship, and nation-building.

Under the guidance and supervision of their dedicated instructors, the students conducted several community-based activities tailored to local needs, including:

  • Clean-up drives to promote environmental stewardship
  • Basic literacy sessions to support lifelong learning
  • Health awareness campaigns to enhance community well-being
  • Assistance with barangay operations to foster civic participation and local governance

Through these immersive experiences, students not only contributed to the development of Barangay Agusan but also deepened their understanding of empathy, volunteerism, and collective responsibility as future leaders of the nation.

The City College of Cagayan de Oro extends its heartfelt gratitude to Punong Barangay Andrew E. Melliza for his warm reception and unwavering support, which made this community immersion both productive and transformative.

Special recognition is also given to the NSTP Team — Ms. Stephanie Lomongo (CWTS Coordinator), Ms. Chery Mae J. Javier (LTS Coordinator), and Ms. Candice May B. Gamayon (NSTP Director) — for their exceptional leadership and commitment in facilitating this community-centered initiative.

Aligned Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 4 – Quality Education: Promoting experiential learning and civic education through community service
  • SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: Supporting local development through student participation and community partnerships
  • SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions: Strengthening civic responsibility, good governance, and citizen participation
  • SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: Building collaboration between the college and local government to achieve shared community goals

Through service and collaboration, our NSTP students continue to learn, serve, and lead—creating ripples of change in every community they touch.
