The City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCDO) proudly brought home two Best Paper Awards (1st Place) during the 6th NMSCST Research Congress, held on November 6–8, 2025, at the Northwestern Mindanao State College of Science and Technology (NMSCST) Convention Hall. With the theme “Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals Through Innovative, Inclusive, and Impact-Driven Research,” the congress recognized outstanding research works that champion sustainable development and community transformation.

CCCDO’s remarkable performance showcased its growing prominence in both social innovation and educational research, winning top awards across two major tracks:

Track 1 – Social Sustainability and Community Well-being

Paper Title: “Mission 626 as a Community Extension-Based Model for Youth Leadership and Sustainable Development”

Authors: Dr. Ray Butch D. Mahinay, Ms. Herna Francis Mae B. Tano, Mr. Joel M. Nob, Mr. Jason Basiculan, and Ms. Gemma E. Gonzales

This award-winning paper introduces Mission 626, a community extension-based leadership framework designed to empower young people through civic engagement, volunteerism, and sustainability-driven initiatives. The program promotes holistic development, addressing key areas such as poverty alleviation, food security, good health, and access to clean water—directly contributing to the following Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 1: No Poverty, SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, and SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.

In addition, Ms. Herna Francis Mae B. Tano received the 3rd Best Presenter Award under Track 1, recognizing her exceptional delivery and research communication skills.

Track 2 – Inclusive Education and Human Development

Paper Title: “Enhancing Learners’ Performance in Plant Care and Propagation Through Bi-Cycle Implementation of Scenario and Computer-Based Simulation Gardening Activities”

Authors: Ms. Candice Colleen L. Guno, Ms. Leslie A. Juntilla, Mr. Robert John B. Solas, Dr. Joel D. Potane, and Mr. Charlie Cosmiano

This innovative educational research integrates scenario-based learning and computer-based simulations to enhance learners’ understanding and performance in plant care and propagation. By combining digital tools and hands-on practice, the study promotes inclusive, equitable, and quality education—anchored on the following Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 5: Gender Equality, and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.

These outstanding achievements reaffirm the City College of Cagayan de Oro’s dedication to research excellence, sustainability, and community impact. As a young and dynamic institution, CCCDO continues to uphold its vision of fostering globally competent, socially responsible, and innovation-driven leaders who contribute meaningfully to local and global development.
