On February 27, 2026, the Philippine Librarians Association, Inc. – Northern Mindanao Region Librarians Council, in partnership with the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines, successfully conducted a meaningful webinar titled “From Making to Meaning: Innovation and Librarian Well-Being” via Google Meet. The event gathered librarians, educators, and information professionals from various institutions, highlighting the importance of innovation while emphasizing the well-being of those in the service-driven field of librarianship.
The webinar featured Dr. Melody R. Agcito, Director of the College Library Services Office at City College of Cagayan de Oro, who delivered an inspiring talk entitled “Finding Balance in a Service-Driven Profession.” Her presentation resonated deeply with participants as she shared practical insights and personal reflections on maintaining balance amidst the demands of library work.
Dr. Agcito underscored the evolving role of librarians in today’s rapidly changing information landscape, where innovation is no longer optional but essential. However, she emphasized that while striving for excellence in service delivery, librarians must also prioritize their mental health, professional fulfillment, and overall well-being. She encouraged attendees to cultivate self-awareness, set healthy boundaries, and embrace sustainable work practices to prevent burnout.
The session also provided a platform for participants to reflect on how innovation in library services can be aligned with purpose and meaning. It highlighted that true innovation goes beyond adopting new technologies, it involves fostering a supportive environment that values both professional growth and personal well-being.
Through this collaborative initiative, PLAI-NMRLC and CEAP reaffirmed their commitment to supporting librarians not only as information providers but also as individuals whose well-being is crucial to the success of their institutions. The webinar served as a timely reminder that empowered and balanced librarians are key to delivering impactful and meaningful library services.
This initiative contributes to the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting mental wellness and continuous professional development among educators and library professionals.
