Meet Princess Bea B. Villa, a resident of Cagayan de Oro City. She is an Iskolar sa Dakbayan (ISDA) currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work at the City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCDO).
She completed her senior high school education in the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand at Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS) last School Year 2024–2025.
Like many senior high school students, Princess faced uncertainties in Grade 12, particularly when deciding which college program to pursue. With numerous schools to choose from, the admission process felt overwhelming and stressful.
Her strong interest in the Humanities and Social Sciences, however, guided her toward a path aligned with her passion. Yet, even as she considered well-known schools, she questioned whether they would truly fit her goals. The pressure of entrance exams and the fear of making the wrong choice added to her anxiety.
Her journey shifted when she discovered City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCDO) during its school caravan. She was initially drawn to the college for its free tuition, student-friendly facilities, and supportive learning environment. Taking a leap of faith, the City College Admission Test (CCAT) opened doors she had never imagined.
At CCCDO, learning extends beyond the classroom. Through hands-on activities, real-world exposure, and meaningful programs, Princess gained a deeper understanding of social work. Interviewing professionals, participating in NSTP activities, and attending workshops nurtured her academic growth and personal development.
Additionally, strong support from faculty boosted her confidence, strengthened her communication skills, and reinforced her values. In her own words:
“Even though I am only a first-year student, I have already experienced many meaningful moments. These experiences may seem small to others, but they are very valuable to me. One example is the Ablaze event, which was enjoyable and memorable. I also appreciated course performance tasks, such as the Mock Job Interview in Purposive Communication.”
For students like Princess who feel uncertain about their next step, her advice is reassuring:
“It may not happen exactly the way you imagined, but sometimes life leads you to something even better than what you expected.”
