On March 30, 2026, the City College of Cagayan de Oro, through Dr. Jestoni P. Babia, the College President, graced the Alternative Learning System (ALS) Graduation Ceremony for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) held at the Cagayan de Oro City Jail – Female Dormitory. The event marked a meaningful celebration of hope, resilience, and achievement among the graduates.

A total of 44 Senior High School completers and 20 Junior High School learners were recognized for successfully finishing their ALS education, proving that the pursuit of knowledge continues even within the confines of correctional facilities.

Guided by the theme, “Filipino Graduates: Prepared to Lead with Competence and Character,” the ceremony highlighted the transformative power of education in restoring dignity and shaping a better future.

In line with this commitment, the City College of Cagayan de Oro is exploring the implementation of a ladderized education program for these ALS completers, providing them with structured pathways to pursue further studies and skills development. This initiative aims to ensure continuity in their learning journey and strengthen their chances for successful reintegration into society.

CCCDO’s participation in this milestone event reaffirms its dedication to extending learning opportunities to underserved sectors, championing education as a tool for transformation, and strengthening partnerships that foster hope, growth, and second chances.
