How equitable education shaped her path as a future Industrial Arts educator.
Dreaming of becoming a teacher, this ISDA steadily worked through her senior high school years by developing her communication skills, strengthening her leadership abilities, and earning recognition for Best in Work Immersion, demonstrating her strong work ethic and ability to apply learning in real-world tasks.
As these milestones reflected her academic discipline and good character, the transition to college became both an opportunity and a challenge. While her achievements built a strong foundation, they did not guarantee a smooth path forward.
Meet Sunrisa S. Angga, Sunny for short, an Iskolar sa Dakbayan (ISDA) at City College of Cagayan de Oro taking up the Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLED) major in Industrial Arts. She completed her Senior High School education at Bugo National High School under the Accountancy and Business Management (ABM) strand.
However, despite her promising potential, there was a time when she stood at the edge of a future she could not yet clearly see. Sunny knew that college would bring financial pressure, a heavier academic workload, and the challenge of adjusting to a new school environment. These uncertainties made the future feel less clear. She shared:
“Before going to college, I felt hesitant. I was worried about adjusting to a new environment and not having enough guidance on choosing the right program for me, which made me anxious about starting my college journey.”
The opportunity to access equitable college education helped ease her financial concerns, bringing both relief and renewed hope.
Now in her 2nd semester for Academic Year 2025–2026, Sunny actively serves as a student leader, participates in symposiums, and engages in volunteerism activities. At the same time, she continues to strengthen her technical skills through hands-on class activities where lessons are applied to real-world tasks.
“I have gained hands-on skills like cable wiring and creating wiring joints, and soon we will start learning welding. These experiences are exciting because they allow me to apply what I learn and prepare me to become a skilled and confident teacher in Industrial Arts.”
