The City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCDO) reaffirmed its commitment to student welfare and holistic development through its active participation in the Zonal Public Orientation on CMO No. 5, s. 2026: Pathway to Health and Well-Being in Higher Education, held on May 7, 2026, at the Greenleaf Hotel in General Santos City.
Organized by the Commission on Higher Education through the Office of Student Development and Services, the orientation gathered higher education institutions across the Mindanao Cluster to strengthen initiatives on student health, mental wellness, and substance use prevention.
Representing CCCDO was Ms. Faith Quinal-Colarte, RGC, Director for Student Welfare and Services, who joined discussions on CHED’s latest policy directions aimed at creating healthier, safer, and more supportive learning environments for students. The orientation highlighted the importance of mental health promotion, physical wellness, safe spaces, and preventive education as integral components of student development in higher education.
The event also provided participating institutions with guidance on the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of campus-based health and well-being programs. Through the presentations and open forum, CCCDO gained valuable insights on strengthening institutional support systems, enhancing student-centered services, and aligning existing programs with CHED’s framework for holistic student welfare.
CCCDO’s participation in the orientation reflects the institution’s continuing dedication to nurturing not only academic excellence but also the overall well-being of its students. The learnings from the activity are expected to further enhance the college’s guidance, counseling, wellness, and student support initiatives as it continues to build a healthier and more inclusive academic community.
