The City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCDO) continues to demonstrate its growing research excellence, as its capsule proposal was officially shortlisted for the full-blown submission phase under the Department of Science and Technology – National Research Council of the Philippines (DOST-NRCP) funding initiative.
Representing the institution in this important milestone were Dr. Ray Butch D. Mahinay, project lead, and Dr. Joel D. Potane, project co-lead, who participated in the Harmonized Full-Blown Proposal Development Writeshop held on May 12–13, 2026, at Philtown Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.
The shortlisted initiative is a collaborative research undertaking between City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCDO) and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) – CDO and Claveria Campuses, bringing together a multidisciplinary team of researchers committed to advancing disaster resilience and governance innovation. The collaboration includes Dr. Psyche B. Cambo (CCCDO), Dr. Aga Emm D. Mahinay (CCCDO), Dr. Dennis Roble (USTP CDO), Dr. Rosie G. Tan (USTP CDO), Dr. Ralph Musni (USTP CDO), and Ms. Florie Jane M. Tamon (USTP Claveria).
The writeshop, organized by the Northern Mindanao Consortium for Health Research Development (NorMinCoHRD), Northern Mindanao Consortium for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (NorMinCIEERD), and Northern Mindanao Consortium for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (NOMCAARD) in collaboration with DOST Northern Mindanao, served as a strategic mentoring platform for shortlisted researchers to refine their concept proposals into competitive full-scale research proposals with strong technical merit for possible funding under the DOST Grants-in-Aid Program.
The proposed study seeks to strengthen disaster governance systems at the barangay level by developing an innovative framework to help local government units assess their governance maturity, institutional readiness, and resilience capacities in responding to disaster risks. This initiative reflects the shared commitment of partner institutions to producing practical, policy-relevant, and community-centered research solutions that address pressing local and national concerns.
This achievement highlights not only the promise of the proposed initiative but also the expanding role of CCCDO in the national research landscape. Through strategic partnerships and competitive research engagement, the institution continues to position itself as an emerging leader in socially responsive and innovation-driven scholarship in Northern Mindanao.
