City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCDO) proudly celebrates the successful publication of a new research study titled “𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞, 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 6 𝐏𝐮𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞: 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐜𝐨-𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐬.” published in the Oro Journal of Sustainability and Development Research.

This scholarly work is authored by Catrenagen L. So, Arnel P. Surdilla, Marianne P. Birondo of Agusan Elementary School, and Dr. Joel D. Potane and Charlie H. Cosminano from City College of Cagayan de Oro.

The study explores the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of Grade 6 pupils regarding sustainable plant care, with the goal of informing and enhancing eco-friendly school gardening programs. Using a descriptive-correlational research design, the study assessed how environmental education translates into actual sustainable behaviors among young learners.

Findings revealed that pupils demonstrated a moderate to high level of knowledge and positive attitudes toward sustainable plant care, alongside generally practiced eco-friendly behaviors. More importantly, the results highlighted a significant relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and practices, indicating that strengthening environmental awareness can directly influence responsible actions among students.

The research further underscores the critical role of attitudes as a key predictor of sustainable behavior, suggesting that fostering positive environmental mindsets is essential in shaping long-term ecological responsibility. These insights provide valuable guidance for educators and policymakers in designing effective, school-based gardening and sustainability initiatives.

This publication reinforces the importance of integrating environmental education into the basic education curriculum and demonstrates how early interventions can cultivate environmentally conscious citizens.

This achievement reflects CCCDO’s unwavering commitment to research excellence, innovation, and advancing knowledge that supports sustainable development and environmental stewardship in education.
