City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCDO) proudly congratulates Dr. Ray Butch D. Mahinay, Vice President for Extension and Social Development Services, for his recent Scopus-indexed publication in the Southeastern Philippines Journal of Research and Development (Vol. 30, No. 2, 2025). The study, co-authored with Edralin C. Manla (Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan), Nancy S. Ramores (Philippine Normal University), and Amparo V. Dinagsao (Heritage University, USA), represents a pioneering integration of the Child-Friendly School (CFS) framework into Alternative Learning System (ALS) research in the Philippines, offering valuable insights and a contextual model for advancing child-friendly and rights-based education systems across Southeast Asia.
The paper, titled “Child-friendly Learning Spaces in the Alternative Learning System (ALS): Focus on Northern Mindanao, Philippines,” explores the critical role of Community Learning Centers (CLCs) in providing inclusive, second-chance education for out-of-school youth and adults (OSYAs). Anchored on UNICEF’s Child-Friendly School (CFS) framework, the study highlights the importance of learner participation, safety, health, and academic achievement within ALS environments across Northern Mindanao.
Dr. Mahinay’s contribution reflects CCCDO’s growing commitment to research excellence and educational innovation aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). His work continues to strengthen CCCDO’s mission to advance inclusive and transformative education for all learners.
