The City College of Cagayan de Oro warmly welcomed Mr. Kenneth C. Siruelo, Chief Volunteer Service Officer and Officer-in-Charge for the Policy, Advocacy, and Technical Services Division (PATSD) of the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA), during his courtesy campus visit on March 5, 2026.
The visit served as a platform for meaningful dialogue and knowledge exchange between PNVSCA, Volunteerism and Active Citizenship Office, and the collegeโs key officials, led by our College President Dr. Jestoni P. Babia. Joining the engagement were Director for Extension and Outreach Ms. Herna Francis Mae Tano, MM; Director for Promotions and Communications Mr. Rosh Entrina, LPT; Director for Internationalization Dr. Donna Grace Cotejo; and the Moderator for the City College Volunteerism and Involvement Center, Mr. Joel M. Nob, LPT.
During the session, the City College of Cagayan de Oro presented its flagship programs, projects, and institutional policies that are strategically aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). These initiatives demonstrate the institutionโs strong commitment to promoting inclusive, equitable, and sustainable development through education, volunteerism, and community engagement.
The discussion emphasized the integration of gender mainstreaming across the collegeโs academic programs, extension services, and volunteer initiatives. Through these efforts, the institution advances gender-responsive governance, empowers women and marginalized sectors, and ensures equal opportunities in both campus and community settings.
Mr. Siruelo commended the college for its proactive and strategic alignment with national and global development frameworks, particularly in advancing volunteerism as a tool for sustainable development. He highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional linkages and leveraging volunteer networks to contribute meaningfully to SDG localization efforts.
The engagement concluded with a shared commitment to explore collaborative initiatives between PNVSCA and the City College of Cagayan de Oro, focusing on capacity-building, policy enhancement, and the expansion of gender-responsive and volunteer-driven programs.
This courtesy visit reaffirmed the institutionโs role as a key academic partner in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, further solidifying its mission to deliver transformative, inclusive, and globally responsive education.
