In a pioneering national initiative, the City College of Cagayan de Oro, in collaboration with the Department of EducationβCagayan de Oro City and SMART PLDT, has launched contextualized Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) designed for an academic-focused bridging program coined as the ALS Weekend Bridging Academy.
The activity sheets were authored by experienced ALS teachers from DepEd CDO and subsequently reviewed and validated by the professors from the CCCDO. This collaborative process helped ensure that the materials are accurate, learner-friendly, and responsive to the needs of ALS learners.
The following professors from the CCCDO served as content experts: Dr. Jean Loquillano and Prof. Eldin Camposo for English; Dr. Joel Potane and Prof. Ma. Katerina Janubas for Science; and Prof. Jonathan Madronero and Prof. Mark Janubas for Mathematics. Furthermore, Dr. Ray Butch Mahinay and Mr. Howard Christian Aranar provided leadership as the overall project leads.
City College President Dr. Jestoni P. Babia commended the initiative as an innovative product of collaboration between basic and higher education. The LAS will be made available in both printed and digital formats, providing learners with greater flexibility and accessibility as they pursue their journey toward college readiness and lifelong learning.
The development of the LAS was anchored on the learning competencies of the ALS Junior High School and Senior High School Curricula of DepEd, which served as the baseline for determining learnersβ existing knowledge and skills.
At the same time, the desired learning outcomes were drawn from the General Education Curriculum of the Commission on Higher Education as per CHED Memorandum Order No. 20, s. 2013. This approach ensures that the materials do not merely review basic education competencies but also prepare learners for the expectations, learning demands, and competencies required at the college level.
