Two (2) professors from the City College of Cagayan de Oro (CDO) served as resource speakers and facilitators during the National Orientation on the Implementation of COLEGA manual in Teaching the Rights of the Children held at Ecotech Center, Lahug, Cebu City last August 6- 9, 2024.

Dr. Joel Potane, Associate Professor V and Dr. Jean T. Loquillano, Associate Professor III, facilitated the 4-day training, which was participated in by the Department of Education (DepEd) regional heads, division supervisors, school principals, Learners' Rights and Protection coordin

ators, guidance counselors, and other education officers from the 17 regions across the country. The activity, organized by the Learners Rights and Protection Office (LRPO) DepED Central Office in partnership with the Geneva Office for Human Rights Education (GO-HRE) Switzerland aims to promote human rights education in a variety of settings through entertaining and thought-provoking classroom activities with focus on cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills of the learners; improve young people’s awareness on human rights and change attitudes towards certain human rights issues, and promote equality, dignity, kindness, and respect in school, home, community, and worldwide.

When asked about the importance of training educators in children's rights, Dr. Potane said, "𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘥, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵." He also emphasized, “𝘉𝘺 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴' 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴, 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘢 𝘴𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴.”

"𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘋𝘦𝘱𝘌𝘥 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘭 𝘰𝘯 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯'𝘴 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘴," said Dr. Loquilano. She added, "𝘈 𝘥𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘦𝘳 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘢𝘸𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘯." This milestone reaffirms the institution’s commitment to making City College of CDO the premier center for human rights education in Northern Mindanao.
