On April 26, 2024, the City College of Cagayan de Oro held its First Stakeholders Meeting at the Agusan Annex Campus, aiming to foster collaborative discussions across various sectors to shape the curriculum for its pioneering bachelor’s degree courses.

The Academic Cluster of the City College spearheaded the meeting, headed by its Associate VP, Dr. Ray Butch Mahinay, who represented the College President, Dr. Jestoni Babia. Together with Dr. Romeo Del Rosario, designated VP for Academics; and Dr. Ma. Aira Chenessa Aguilar, Dean of Curriculum and Instruction, who also served as co-facilitators during the Stakeholders’ Meeting.

Stakeholders from diverse sectors including academia, industry, government, and civic society were invited. Notable attendees encompassed Ms. Jeaniliza Ilagan-Lagana from USTP, Ms. Sol Gomez from Magnum Radyo 99.9, Ms. Lenny Marie Tagum, Master Teacher I, SHS Coordinator at Agusan National High School, along with SHS students from Bugo National High School. Representatives from Barangay Agusan Officials, Mr. Dennis Lofranco, Barangay Administrator, and Hon. Resh Franz David Baconguis, SK Kagawad, were also present. Lastly, representing CHED Region 10 was Mr. Elmer Lopez, serving as one of the education supervisors of CHED.

Following a presentation on the proposed subjects for the three (3) pioneering courses, participants engaged in dynamic discussions during an open forum. Key points emphasized the alignment of course offerings with CHED Memorandums, the City College’s mission, vision, and goals, and the City RISE Agenda. Additionally, a recommendation to introduce subjects focusing on innovation or 'technopreneurship,' was introduced, and the need for the institution to develop policies and guidelines that meet prerequisites, promote inclusivity, and maintain academic standards.

These collective efforts are directed towards ensuring that the curriculum of City College is both robust and responsive to the evolving needs of both the industry and the community it serves. Through the alignment of course offerings with regulatory standards, institutional goals, and emerging trends such as innovation and inclusivity, the college endeavors to provide its students with a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in their chosen fields.
