The City College of Cagayan de Oro participated in the recently concluded Mindanao Regional Scientific Meeting (RSM), with the theme, "Beyond Farm Productivity: Transforming the Philippine Food System to Address Equity, Consumer Health, and Environmental Issues" held last May 8-9, 2024, at the Mallberry Suites and Business Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City. Present at the meeting were the members of the Academic Cluster, led by its Vice President, Dr. Ray Butch Mahinay. Alongside him were Dr. Ma. Aira Chenessa B. Aguilar, Dean of Curriculum and Instruction; Ms. Jessa Mae Dugenio, Associate to the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction; and Prof. Charlie Job Sumili, Center Head, Center for Languages and the Arts.
The 2024 RSM proved to be a dynamic platform, featuring agri-machineries and mechanization practices from neighboring countries, as well as presentations on the potential applications of space and drone technologies in agriculture and fisheries. Distinguished plenary speakers sparked engaging discussions among participants regarding the transformative impact of digitalization and technology on our food system. Towards the end of the meeting, resolutions resulting from these interactions were consolidated and are set to be presented at the 46th Annual Scientific Meeting in July 2024 in Metro Manila.
The City College of Cagayan de Oro extends its heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to be part of this year’s Mindanao RSM hosted by the NAST PHL Mathematical and Physical Sciences Division (MPSD) and Engineering Sciences and Technology Division (ESTD). This meeting not only exemplified collaboration and commitment but also showcased the collective effort toward addressing pressing issues within the region.
