On September 24, 2024, sixty-six (66) Housekeeping NCII trainees from the City College of Cagayan de Oro—Technical Skills and Technology Institute (TSTI) 3rd Quarter batch, participated in an industry visit at Seda Centrio Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City. This activity supports TESDA Circular No. 18, s. 2023, which encourages trainees to immerse in real work environments and gain practical experience from industry professionals.
The visit began with welcome remarks from Ms. Maria Ruselle M. Legados, Assistant Director of Human Resources at Seda Centrio Hotel, who emphasized the importance of attitude and soft skills in complementing technical skills in hospitality industry. “𝐀𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐝𝐚 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐨, 𝐰𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬—𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤, 𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞—𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲,” said Ms. Legados. Building on this foundation, the morning session continued with a briefing on housekeeping standards by Mr. Royny A. Caday, Housekeeping Supervisor. The session provided operational insights, featuring an in-depth Room Tour that showcased best practices for preparing guest rooms. Trainees also learned about various cleaning solutions which are essential for maintaining hygiene. Afterwards, the participants went to the hotel’s Laundry Operations to understand the management of large-scale laundry services and observe the standards for linens and amenities.
In the afternoon, while trainees attended a session facilitated by Ms. Legados, Mr. Rhett Villaruz, Hotel Manager, Seda Centrio Hotel, visited the trainees and provided a comprehensive overview of industry standards, offering valuable insights to broaden their understanding
The program concluded with closing remarks from Ms. Mary Vil Acenas, Vocational School Administrator of the City College of CDO-TSTI, who highlighted the importance of industry exposure as trainees transition into the workforce. Ms. Acenas reinforced the institution's commitment, in collaboration with industry partners, to providing trainees with the skills needed to face real-world challenges and thrive in an ever-evolving workforce.
