The 2024 Home Economics and Technology Teachers Organization of the Philippines, Inc. (HETTOP) National Convention, themed “Sustainable Implementation of Innovative Skills in Home Economics and Technology Education,” was a resounding success. Held from November 20 to 23 at the Baguio Teachers Camp in Baguio City, the event brought together educators from across the country to exchange insights and practices. The convention highlighted the transformative role of innovative teaching methods and sustainable practices in technical-vocational education.
The convention featured expert-led discussions on topics such as the integration of the MATATAG Curriculum as a tool for fostering innovation in education, Sustainable implementation of Innovative Skills in Home Economics and Technology Teachers, the latest trends in technology and cutting-edge approaches to enhance learning experiences, and TESDA’s recent advancements in skills training and competency-based education. Attendees also participated in practical workshops, such as basic woodworking through the Ace Media Craft initiative, and observed presentations of innovations showcasing sustainable and creative teaching solutions.
At the convention, City College of Cagayan de Oro was represented by faculty members Psyche B. Cambo, Chair of the BTVTED and BTLED programs; Aiza Mae D. Cahansa; and Charlie Cosmiano. Prof. Cambo emphasized the importance of innovation in education, stating, “𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘵𝘰𝘰𝘭𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦. 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘶𝘮 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘵, 𝘶𝘱-𝘵𝘰-𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘤𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺.” These faculty members were integral to the event's success, serving as part of the technical working group and contributing to the seamless execution of the program.
This year’s convention served as a vital platform for educators to collaborate and explore sustainable, innovative practices that will shape the future of Home Economics and Technology education in the Philippines. The active involvement of City College of CDO faculty highlights their dedication to excellence and their commitment to empowering Filipino learners with skills for a dynamic world.
