Dr. Ray Butch Mahinay, Vice President for Extension and Sustainable Development at City College of Cagayan de Oro, engaged education stakeholders in a keynote presentation during the Stakeholders Consultation on Education, Innovation, and Sustainable Development. The event, organized by the City Education and Development Office (CEDO), took place on March 20, 2025 at the City Tourism Hall, Cagayan de Oro City.

The consultation gathered School Governing Councils (SGCs) from DepEd elementary, junior, and senior high schools, with the school heads, teachers, parents, and community representatives, to discuss the future of education in the city. Representatives from the Persons with Disability (PWD) Council were also present, emphasizing the importance of inclusive education policies.

During his talk, Dr. Mahinay underscored the critical role of innovation in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4): Quality Education for All. In particular, Dr. Mahinay cited that the opening of the City College of Cagayan de Oro is a concrete innovation aligned with SDG 4. The school provides equitable access to tertiary education, giving underprivileged yet deserving students a chance to pursue college studies despite their unfavorable circumstances.

In addition, Dr. Mahinay explained, “By offering tech-voc programs that equip individuals with job-ready skills (Target 4.4) and expanding course offerings, such as diploma programs soon, we ensure inclusive education for marginalized groups (Target 4.5).”

CCCDO sincerely thanks Ms. Ritchel P. Dahay, Head of the City Education and Development Office (CEDO), for the opportunity to participate in this crucial initiative that highlights on advancing education policies and fostering innovation to promote inclusive learning in the city.
