The City College of Cagayan de Oro - NSTP, represented by the NSTP Director Prof. Candice May B. Gamayon actively participated in the 1st PSNEI Mindanao Conference held on March 27-28, 2025, at Caraga State University, Butuan City. The event which carried the theme, “Empowering Mindanao NSTP Educators and Implementers Through Nation Building and Volunteerism,” was attended by participants from Regions 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and BARMM.
The opening day featured inspiring keynote speeches that delved into the conference’s theme. Mayor Engr. Ronnie Vicente C. Lagnada of Butuan City delivered his message through City Councillor Joseph Omar O. Andaya, emphasizing the importance of volunteerism and civic engagement.
A highlight of the event was a Sofa Chat featuring Former DND Secretary and National Security Adviser, Norberto B. Gonzales, and 15 RCDG Group Commander, Col. Jonathan P. Obena. Gonzales stressed that national security extends beyond military defense, advocating a whole-of-nation approach where NSTP plays a crucial role in shaping responsible, service-driven youth.
Gender and Development (GAD) was also in focus, with CSU GAD Officer Ms. Marjorie L. Escartin discussing its integration into NSTP/NSRC. It was then followed by Dr. Maria Ines C. Asuncion’s presentation on best practices in Region 13. A collaborative GAD workshop wrapped up the first day. Day two featured Maj. Hermie P. Pava, former PSNEI president and CMU Vice President for Administration, who discussed the operationalization of NSRC in Mindanao’s HEIs. Participants also engaged in workshops and discussions on CBDRRRM, COMELEC, and PSNEI updates. The event concluded with a Mindanao leg assembly and the awarding of certificates.
As NSTP educators and advocates, CCCDO continues to nurture and empower the Filipino youth towards nation-building and meaningful community service. Hiraya Manawari!
