General Functions
Guidance, Counseling and Assessment Services plays in the overall development and success of
our students. In collaboration with other college departments, we lead the development of
mental health programs to support students' and other stakeholders' mental health and
wellbeing. Its programs aim to assist students in achieving their full potential, enhancing
well-being, and improving academic, career, personal, and interpersonal skills through
tailored support, resources, and interventions while promoting inclusivity, diversity, and
continuous improvement.

Counseling
- Individual Counseling - assist the students through call-in, walk-in,
and/or
referral type. Counselor can call-in identified students during the initial
intake interview and based on results of psychological assessments conducted.
Interview of the student is conducted upon admission until graduation to
identify potential problems and prevent them from becoming serious.
- Group Counseling - a group intervention with the consent of the college
dean to
meet the students in their classrooms for group interpretation or psychological
intervention. This is a venue to provide information on health and wellness and
group discussion of identified shared concerns.
- Career Counseling - a personalized and multifaceted service focused on
helping
the students explore their strengths, interests, and values, aligning them with
potential career paths. The process involves self-assessment, career
exploration, educational and career planning, goal setting, skills development,
job search strategies, and continuous guidance to empower students in making
informed decisions and successfully navigating their career journeys.
- Tele-Counseling - a remote counseling service using communication
technologies
to enhance accessibility, maintaining confidentiality, and providing a range of
counseling support integrating technology through online platforms such as video
conferencing, email counseling, and telephonic counseling.
Referral System- This is an essential tool that systematically directs
individuals with specific needs beyond the scope of the counseling center to
external resources, professional services. Referrals can also be made for academic
concerns, personal, financial, and psycho-social concerns. This can include
teacher-referral, family member-referral, or peer-referral.

Prevention And Wellness Services
- Seminars/Workshops/Symposia - programs held for a variety of audiences
including
staff, teachers, and student organizations which covers leadership, teamwork,
defining values, personhood, life coaching, and enhancing interpersonal
connections among others.
- Group Dynamics - interactive and structured exercises aimed at promoting
positive interactions, enhancing communications, and fostering a sense of
community. This activity includes ice breakers, team-building exercises,
skill-building workshops, mindfulness techniques, thematic discussions,
expressive arts, conflict resolution exercises, peer support circles, and
goal-setting sessions.
- Peer Mentor Program - This involves pairing experienced mentors to
provide
academic and personal support. This program aims to contribute to students’
overall well-being and positive development.
- System Support - This covers guidance staff professional development and
committee participation where it strongly encourages guidance staff members to
attend yearly seminars, trainings, and workshops to further enhance their
expertise in the field of guidance and counseling as well as participate in
different committees assigned by the administration as needed.
- Psychological First Aid/MHPSS - This is a crucial tool for prevention and
mental
wellness to provide immediate, compassionate support to individuals in distress,
including rapid assessments, active listening, and practical assistance. This
incorporates psychoeducation, crisis intervention, and referral to specialized
services with cultural sensitivity.

Assessment/Testing Services within the Guidance Program involve the use of various
tools for assessment to gain a comprehensive understanding of an individual’s
abilities, interests, aptitudes, preferences, and characteristics.

Information services for students under the guidance program involve the proactive
gathering and dissemination of relevant information to address their academic,
social, and personal needs.

Placement and Follow-Up
With the use of this service, students can get help getting into specific programs
within the college. When a student wants to switch to a different course, they are
directed to the Guidance center to speak with their assigned guidance counselor.

Research, Evaluation and Training
The guidance services are systematically evaluated by this service, which is to
determine whether the program’s aims and objectives have been reached.

Appointment Procedures
We understand how important it is for the student to access the Guidance
Appointment link. State the purpose of the appointment, set the schedule and time
according to the student’s availability. Please come at your specific time for the
appointment.

Counseling Procedure
- Student identifies the need for counseling through call-in, walk-in, or
referral.
- Based on the first intake interview, if necessary, psychological assessment is
conducted to gather more information about the student’s needs and challenges.
Counseling sessions will be scheduled with informed consent from the student to
prevent potential problems from escalating and develop strategies for personal
growth and well-being.
- If concerns require expert handling or specialized professional assistance, the
Guidance Counselor/Associate may refer the student to appropriate agencies.
Continuous monitoring of the student’s progress through follow-up sessions to
help track the effectiveness of the intervention. Evaluation of the counseling
process is done before closing the counseling session to assess effectiveness
and make adjustments of the student’s concern.

Admission
- The City College of Cagayan de Oro's Admission Office, guided by CHED
Memorandum Order (CMO) No.
9, series of 2013 and CMO No. 8, series of 2021, and the College's mission,
vision, goals, and objectives,
ensures an inclusive, transparent, and equitable admission process. The office
reviews applications,
conducts interviews, and assesses standardized test scores while upholding the
College's commitment
to efficiency, inclusivity, and accessibility.
Pursuant to its mandate, the Admission Office also works hand-in-hand with the
Academic cluster in
providing and disseminating information and materials about programs,
scholarships, and financial aid
opportunities that all qualified students can take advantage of to ensure
continuity of learning.
Lastly, it conducts information and orientation sessions for prospective
students, providing them with a
comprehensive understanding of the College's offerings, future careers, and
steadfast commitment to

Faith Q. Colarte, a highly qualified guidance counselor, serves the City College of Cagayan
de Oro. With a Master's degree from Capitol University and currently pursuing a Doctorate
from Ateneo de Davao University, she has dedicated over a decade to helping students
navigate academic
and personal challenges.
Peer Facilitators’ Circle Orientation
October 28 & 29, 2024 | Guidance Office Testing Area
To kickstart their journey as peer facilitators, City College of Cagayan de Oro held
a dynamic orientation for its registered volunteers. The two-day event, held on
October 28 and 29, 2024, at the Guidance Office Testing Area, provided participants
with a comprehensive overview of their roles and responsibilities.
The orientation aimed to equip the peer facilitators with a deep understanding of the
significance of peer education, the critical skills they will need, and the values
they are expected to embody. This initiative emphasized the importance of
collaboration, communication, and the overall impact that peer educators have on
their fellow students’ academic and personal growth.
During the session, the facilitators discussed the key training modules, reviewed the
support systems in place, and clarified expectations, ensuring they are prepared for
the challenges and rewards of their new roles. This comprehensive introduction was
crucial before officially confirming their commitment to the Peer Facilitators'
Circle.
We recognize that peer education plays a vital role in creating a supportive and
collaborative learning environment. The peer facilitators will be instrumental in
fostering positive learning experiences and promoting the well-being of the student
body. Their involvement is central to the City College of Cagayan de Oro’s mission
to create a more inclusive, empathetic, and empowering academic community.
City College of Cagayan de Oro Launches "Re-echoing LIFE" Initiative to Promote
Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

The City College of Cagayan de Oro (CCCDO) has launched a comprehensive mental health
and suicide prevention program titled "Re-echoing LIFE - Living In a Facilitative
Environment." This community-based initiative, spearheaded by Guidance Counselor Ms.
Faith Colarte, RGC, aims to create a more supportive and responsive environment for
both students and staff.
This program directly contributes to the RISE Cagayan de Oro City development agenda,
particularly under the "Safety, Security, and Social Development" pillar. By
equipping both personnel and students with essential mental health skills, the
initiative fosters an inclusive environment that promotes personal growth and
well-being. It also aligns with the "Education and Skills Development" target,
highlighting the importance of comprehensive training programs that address the
community's needs.
The "Re-echoing LIFE" initiative is a collaborative effort between the City Social
Welfare and Development Office (CSWD)-Psychosocial Unit and the Psychological
Association of the Philippines (PAP). This program builds upon the success of the
Training of Trainers conducted in September 2024, which focused on the LIFE
approach. This approach emphasizes creating a facilitative environment for mental
well-being.
The initiative will involve a series of training sessions for all CCCDO personnel and
students across various departments and programs, including BACOMM, BTVTED, BTLED,
and TSTI. The training will employ interactive methods such as plenary discussions,
group discussions, and role-playing exercises to enhance engagement and skill
development.
The objectives of "Re-echoing LIFE" include:
- Effectively disseminating the training module to all personnel and students.
- Enhancing the capacity of the psychosocial group by implementing the LIFE
approach.
- Providing participants with a deeper understanding of mental health issues,
suicide prevention strategies, and the LIFE approach.
- Improving participants' skills in active listening, crisis intervention, and
fostering a supportive environment.
- Reducing stigma associated with mental health and increasing confidence in
addressing mental health concerns.
"We believe that promoting mental well-being is crucial for our students and staff to
thrive," said Ms. Colarte. "This program is a testament to our commitment to
creating a safe and supportive environment where everyone feels comfortable seeking
help and support when needed."
The "Re-echoing LIFE" initiative is expected to have a significant impact on the
CCCDO community, fostering a positive and supportive environment for everyone. It is
a valuable step towards addressing the growing need for mental health support in
educational settings.
MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS: Guidance and Counseling for Students' Well-Being
October 14, 2024
In celebration of World Mental Health Month, the City College of Cagayan de Oro's
Guidance, Counseling, and Assessment Services Office hosted a special episode of
"PITIK: Sa Buhat ug Balita, Kauban ta UY!" focusing on student well-being.
The seventh episode, titled "Mental Health Matters: Guidance and Counseling for
Student Well-Being," featured our very own Guidance Counselor, Ms. Faith Colarte.
During the episode, Ms. Colarte discussed the importance of mental health,
particularly for young people in today’s fast-paced world.
On October 14, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Ms. Colarte shared valuable insights
on mental health awareness and highlighted the various services and programs offered
by the City College of Cagayan de Oro to support student mental health. The session
was hosted by City Information Office host, George D. Bacus.
This episode aimed to raise awareness about mental health issues and promote the
importance of seeking guidance and counseling services for a healthier academic and
personal life.

Here are the important dates for the enrollment process at the City College of
Cagayan de Oro:
- Admission Pre-registration: Pre-registration is open until
July 7. Be sure to complete the registration via City College
Website or through this link for the CCAT schedule of examination.
- Admission Examination: The admission exam will be conducted
from July 1-3, July 8-10, July 15-17, and July 22-24.
Examination times are at 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
- Announcement of Results: Results will be announced in two
batches: 1st batch on June 28 and 2nd batch on July
21. The results will be communicated via email, SMS, and public
announcement through our official Facebook page.
- Enrollment Period: Enrollment will be open from July 8
to August 3. Be sure to complete your enrollment process within
this period.

- Step 1: Pre-registration for New and Continuing students.
- Step 2: Announcement of result through email, SMS, and public
announcement through facebook.com/orocitycollegeofficial.
- Step 3: Release of CCAT results at the Guidance, Counseling and
Assessment Office.
- Step 4: Evaluation and validation of program head on the
courses/program offering and class schedule assignment.
- Step 5: Tagging of scholarship and verification of financial
obligation at the Finance Office.
- Step 6: Encoding of personal data through self-enrollment at
the enrollment area.
- Step 7: Submit Report Card, PSA copy of Birth Certificate, Good
Moral Character, 2x2 ID Picture, and TOR/HD for transferee before printing of
Certificate of Registration at the Registrar’s Office.
- Step 8: ID picture-taking at the TIDMAC office, Medical
Screening and recording at the School Clinic, and Student Needs Assessment at
the Guidance Office.
- Step 9: Claim of the student handbook and student ID at the
Student Affairs Office.
- Step 10: Student is officially enrolled.

September 12-13, 2024
The City College of Cagayan de Oro participated in a Suicide Prevention Awareness
Program organized by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) and the
Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP), represented by the Guidance
Counselor, Ms. Faith Q. Colarte, RGC, and the Human Resource Association, Ms.
Abygail Salcedo. The program trained local government personnel to enhance mental
health awareness and suicide prevention efforts in the city.
