The City College of Cagayan de Oro marked April as Water Conservation Month by
launching a comprehensive policy focused on sustainable water management across its campus. The
initiative reflects the collegeβs commitment to environmental stewardship and aligns with
broader efforts to promote sustainable practices within the community.
Through this new policy, the institution seeks to significantly reduce water wastage and promote
conservation practices among students, staff, and faculty. The policy includes measures such as
the installation of low-flow faucets, the regular maintenance of plumbing systems, and the use
of recycled water for landscaping purposes. Additionally, awareness campaigns have been rolled
out to educate the campus community on the importance of conserving water.
Dr. Jestoni P. Babia, the College President, emphasized that βWater is a precious resource, and
as an educational institution, we have a responsibility to set an example in preserving it.β The
collegeβs goal is not only to reduce its own water footprint but also to inspire others in the
community to adopt sustainable practices.
This month-long celebration of Water Conservation Month is marked by various activities,
including seminars, workshops, and hands-on sessions that equip students with practical
knowledge on sustainable water management. The program will culminate in a community outreach
event that encourages local residents to adopt water conservation techniques in their
households.
With this policy, the City College of Cagayan de Oro hopes to instill a culture of environmental
responsibility within its campus and beyond, ensuring that the benefits of water conservation
extend to future generations.
