The Community-Based Training (CBT) for Housekeeping NC II at Brgy. Dansolihon saw 18 female trainees successfully complete the training through various methods. Participants engaged in hands-on practice and received access to educational resources such as laptops to make learning more engaging, convenient, and easy to access. Study guides were accessed through the laptops.
Moreover, 52% of the trainees are employed as on-call housekeeping attendants through residential houses and various tourism industries of Cagayan de Oro.
"Kahigayonan," meaning "chance" or "opportunity" in English, is an annual event led by the Oro Youth Development Office (OYDO) and co-organized by the Out of School Youth Development Alliance (OSYDA). This program is dedicated to providing both in-school and out-of-school youth with opportunities to study, gain skills, and even secure employmentโall for free.
The 3-day event was hosted at Ayala Centrio Malls, drawing approximately 1,000 successful registrants who availed of services from various alliance members through a World Cafรฉ setup. The opening program was honored by the presence of TESDA Provincial Director Garrido and Regional Director Abrogar, alongside City Councilors Daba and Pascual.
The mini-activities were a hit among visitors, making their visit worthwhile while also providing valuable insights into the programs and qualifications offered by the school, both from TSTI and higher education.
On the second day, the Job Fair, organized by PESO Cagayan de Oro, attracted a significant number of jobseekers. The job vacancies available included both local and overseas opportunities. The event particularly highlighted the enthusiasm of the youth eager to secure meaningful employment, while also accommodating other jobseekers.
The final day highlighted the victory of the City College of Cagayan de Oro as its trainees brought home the championship in the Bed-Setup Competition, which was participated in by six techvoc schools in the city. The Kahigayonan Skills Expo and Job Fair truly provided a platform for individuals to unlock their potential and discover new skills that will help them achieve progress in all aspects of life.

The expo showcases a wide array of programs, products, and services, offering invaluable promotional avenues for participants.
City College of Cagayan de Oro - Technical Skills and Technology Institute actively participated in the Mindanao Education Expo, leveraging the event to showcase the school's diverse programs and services. This year, the school is honored to be invited again, this time as a co-organizer of this esteemed gathering.
During this 3-day event, the school engaged with numerous exhibitors to network, market its offerings, attract potential enrollees, and serve skill seekers.
Approximately 400 mall-goers visited the booth to inquire about the school's programs and offerings. Out of these, around 200 visitors registered for possible enrollment, and 50% of them successfully pursued training.
Mr. Jerome Torres represented the school in a panel discussion on current trends and demands in TVET education, highlighting the institute's best practices and methods.
On the final day, trainees proudly demonstrated skills from the school's Housekeeping NC II qualification. They performed both traditional and duvet setups, which were well received and applauded by the audience. Overall, the event was a success, achieving all its objectives, serving the Kagay-anons of the city through education.
LA'KIP, an online learning platform offering a wide range of courses in the Bisaya language, was officially launched on February 13, 2023, in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communication Technology - Region X, Department of Education - Region X, and Coursebank. LAโKIP promotes equal educational opportunities and fosters inclusivity by eliminating language barriers that may impede access to knowledge.
This event follows the successful pilot-run of the LAโKIP Microsoft Productivity Tool Course from January 29-31, 2023, held at the City College of Cagayan de Oro with participants from the Out-of-School Youth, Nahilaran Indigenous Peoples, and Muslim youth. Of the 13 modules offered, the first 4 modules โ Microsoft Productivity Tool, Navigating Google Workplace, Canva for Graphic Design, and Introduction to Data Privacy โ were pioneered by select DepEd Cagayan de Oro Teachers.
The event was led by DICT - X, represented by Regional Director Sittie Rahma V. Alawi and Engr. Eugene C. Raposala III, Officer-In-Charge of the Technical Operations Division. The kick-off event was supported by Ms. Aimee R. Marcos, Digital Consultant of the Local Government of Cagayan de Oro. City College President, Mr. Jestoni P. Babia, and Director of the Office of Community Empowerment and Social Synergy, Ms. Maria Victoria B. Trinidad, also showed their support, highlighting the commitment to the program and its future plans.
