Organized by Times Higher Education, the congress assembled global thought leaders, academics, and industry innovators to tackle urgent solutions to sustainability challenges.

Dr. Babia was personally invited by Times Higher Education to showcase City College of CDO's potential contributions to sustainability efforts. This invitation underscores the institution's growing prominence and its dedication to making a significant impact on both local communities and the broader world.

Under Mayor Klarex Uy's leadership, City College of CDO is committed to enhancing its global presence and contributing to international discussions on sustainability. The college plans to participate in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings starting next year, aiming to demonstrate its role in achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

El Salvador City, June 13, 2023 โ€“ In a significant move towards hands-on learning, eighteen Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC I trainees from the Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) participated in their inaugural industry tour at C-ONE Trading Corporation. This visit, mandated by TESDA Circular No. 018, s. 2023, marks a pivotal moment in their practical training journey.

Organized by the City College of Cagayan de Oro Technical Skills and Technology Institute, the tour highlights the institution's unwavering commitment to providing high-quality skills training. The SMAW NC I program is designed to equip trainees with the vital competencies required to excel in their field. This industry tour bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world application, giving trainees an invaluable glimpse into the operations of the welding industry.

The day began with a comprehensive briefing on safety protocols led by Ms. Jasmin Tan Yacapin, ensuring that all participants were well-prepared for the hands-on experience. In the afternoon, the session featured insights from key industry figures. Mr. Alexander Lim, Assistant Vice President of C-ONE Trading Corporation, shared his expertise on innovation and inspiration within the industry, while Mr. Anthony Mark Mofar, Assistant Branch Head, emphasized the importance of understanding industry expectations. The tour was expertly facilitated by Mr. Romeo Lavador, Senior Body Repair Specialist, who guided the trainees through the company's operations.

The City College of CDO-Technical Skills and Technology Institute (TSTI) strengthened its partnership with TESDA Region X through an exploratory meeting to advance its tech-voc programs on August 12, 2023, Monday, during the Kahigayonan Skills Expo and Job Fair Launch at Centrio Ayala Malls.

Attendees included Prof. Mary Vil Acenas, Vocational School Administrator; Prof. Jett Torres, Director of Lifelong Learning and Professional Development; and Ms. Rutche Montano, Unified TVET Program Registrations & Accreditations (UTPRAS) Officer. Representing TESDA were the newly appointed Regional Director, Dir. Rafael Y. Abrogar II, and TESDA Misamis Oriental Provincial Director, Dir. Marigold Cherie R. Garrido.

The discussion focused on updates regarding TSTIโ€™s programs, registration processes, and tech-voc scholarships. These programs include institution-based, community-based, and the Mobile Training Program (MTP), which is currently undergoing registration and inspection. The introduction of a new three-year diploma course on Industrial Technology that is set to launch next year was also discussed.

Furthermore, the meeting included plans to establish accredited assessment centers for Electrical Installation and Maintenance, Carpentry, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), and Housekeeping.

The City College of CDO-TSTI is grateful to TESDA Region 10 for granting slots in the Trainers Methodology (TM) courseโ€”a valuable opportunity to enhance the skills of its trainersโ€”along with other scholarship grants for the institution's scholar-trainees.

The Department of Science and Technology - Region X (DOST-X), through its representatives, Mr. Jonathan Agbayani and Ms. Rubie Mae Fernandez, recently visited the City College of Cagayan de Oro, where they engaged in a fruitful exploratory meeting with the Research, Creative Works, and Publication Office, as well as the Community Empowerment and Social Synergy Office.

During the insightful discussion, the President of City College, Dr. Jestoni P. Babia, shared the institution's research and development agenda, emphasizing a strategic alignment with the DOSTโ€™s agenda, the Local Government of Cagayan de Oro, and the Philippine Development Plan. Notably, City College's focus on AI in its research and development initiatives adds a cutting-edge dimension to its pursuits.

The collaborative meeting set the stage for exciting future endeavors, sparking passion and drive for collaboration between the DOST-X and the City College of Cagayan de Oro. Both parties expressed enthusiasm about the potential positive impact on research and development in the region.

The City College of Cagayan de Oro participated in the recently concluded Mindanao Regional Scientific Meeting (RSM), with the theme, "Beyond Farm Productivity: Transforming the Philippine Food System to Address Equity, Consumer Health, and Environmental Issues," held last May 8-9, 2023, at the Mallberry Suites and Business Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.

Present at the meeting were the members of the Academic Cluster, led by its Vice President, Dr. Ray Butch Mahinay. Alongside him were Dr. Ma. Aira Chenessa B. Aguilar, Dean of Curriculum and Instruction; Ms. Jessa Mae Dugenio, Associate to the Dean of Curriculum and Instruction; and Prof. Charlie Job Sumili, Center Head, Center for Languages and the Arts.

The 2023 RSM proved to be a dynamic platform, featuring agri-machineries and mechanization practices from neighboring countries, as well as presentations on the potential applications of space and drone technologies in agriculture and fisheries. Distinguished plenary speakers sparked engaging discussions among participants regarding the transformative impact of digitalization and technology on our food system.

Towards the end of the meeting, resolutions resulting from these interactions were consolidated and are set to be presented at the 46th Annual Scientific Meeting in July 2023 in Metro Manila.

The City College of Cagayan de Oro extends its heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to be part of this yearโ€™s Mindanao RSM hosted by the NAST PHL Mathematical and Physical Sciences Division (MPSD) and Engineering Sciences and Technology Division (ESTD). This meeting not only exemplified collaboration and commitment but also showcased the collective effort toward addressing pressing issues within the region.

The City College of Cagayan de Oro congratulates Dr. Ray Butch Mahinay, Associate Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Formation, on his achievement at the 2023 International Assessment Summit, hosted by Northern Bukidnon State College in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon, on May 13-14, 2023.

The summit featured esteemed speakers, including Dr. Stephen P. Hundley, Chair of the Assessment Institute in Indianapolis, and Dr. Amelia T. Buan, Professor at MSU-IIT's Department of Science and Mathematics Education, Research, and Assessment.

Dr. Butch presented two research papers, which he authored and co-authored during his tenure with the Department of Education (DepEd). The City College of CDO academic community is immensely proud of Dr. Butch's accomplishments.

Furthermore, the institution extends its congratulations to Dr. Catherine Roween Chico-Almaden, President of Northern Bukidnon State College, and her entire team for successfully hosting the summit.

On April 19, 2023, the City College of Cagayan de Oro welcomed the Intellectual Property (IP) Academy of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL)!

Over 60 faculty and staff members of the City College of Cagayan de Oro actively participated in the program, gaining valuable knowledge about intellectual property.

The event was graced by Dr. Frederick P. Romero, Rosette Anne R. Consolacion, Engr. Kevin U. Facun, and Ms. Jessah Marsamolo from the IP Academy. They tackled various subject areas including IP systems, proper trademark handling, and the intricacies of patents.

This IP Roadshow provides a springboard for the City College of Cagayan de Oro faculty and staff, enabling a deeper understanding of intellectual property. With this, City College can better guide students, fostering innovation and creativity within the academic community, all geared towards holistic development.

In a ceremonial oath taking this morning, the Department of Interior and Local Government โ€“ X (DILG-X), the City College of Cagayan De Oro, and the Cagayan De Oro Chamber of Industries pledge to ensure that their research, innovations, and other S&T-based projects shall contribute to the Philippine and Regional Development Plans, National Innovation Agenda and Strategy Document, and other development plans relevant to advancing science, technology, and innovation in Northern Mindanao.

The Department of Public Works and Highways - X (DPWH), the newly elected Vice-Chairperson for Knowledge and RDI Infrastructure Management, will be having its oath-taking at a different event.

We also have in photos representatives of some of the newly elected institutions as chairpersons in the vacant positions. The Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) is the new co-chairperson, the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Industries (COCI) is the new Industry Vice Chairperson, and the Xavier Science Foundation (XSF) is the new Vice-Chairperson for Resource Mobilization and Management Committee.
